AI adoption introduces two new imperatives – Data quality and a new class of cyber risk.

Microsoft Purview provides data governance that ensures AI reasoning and responses are accurate, safe, and aligned with organisational data controls.

The second imperative addresses a new class of cyber risk that is dynamic, context-aware, and connected to sensitive data. The Microsoft Security Ecosystem manages these AI-driven risks through a unified platform that spans discovery, data, identity, threat intelligence and governance:

• Discovery – Microsoft Defender detects AI usage across the organisation and provides out-of-the box risk assessments that measure risk exposure including shadow IT.
• Data Oversharing – Data is core to AI. Microsoft Purview automates data classification and applies sensitivity labels that persist across AI interactions, ensuring consistent protection.
• Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) – Microsoft Purview extends Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to AI interactions, safeguarding sensitive content across prompts, summaries, and generated outputs.
• Identity and Access Management (IAM) – Microsoft Entra ID treats AI agents as privileged identities, enforcing conditional access, lifecycle controls, and granular permissions.
• Threat Detection and Response (TDR) – Microsoft Defender and Sentinel detect and respond to anomalous AI behavior, including prompt injection, unauthorized data access, and misuse of automation.
• Policy Enforcement and Governance – Microsoft’s compliance framework now includes AI-specific policies that govern model usage, data provenance, retention, and ethical boundaries.

This integrated approach enables organisations to embrace AI innovation while maintaining a resilient, compliant, and confident cyber posture.
