ABOUT
Through practical guidance, recommendations, and architecture patterns, the Cloud Resilience Framework aims to ensure cloud applications are built to withstand unplanned infrastructure and application outages, people and process failures, and malicious activity.
The Framework aims to be a ‘go to’ for solution architects to understand the approach to building cloud applications that enable resilient business services. Furthermore, the document details the operational monitoring and testing frameworks that provide business with confidence and demonstrate regulatory compliance.
The diagram on the right highlights the four cornerstones of the framework approach, with the Microsoft ‘Well Architected Framework’ ‘Reliability Pillar’ as the guiding star.

Key Goals
- Define – Define what resilience in the cloud means from a strategic and business perspective.
- Guide – Provide guidance to Solution Architects to design applications that deliver resilience proportionate to the application criticality (fit-for-purpose).
- Operate – Define roles and responsibilities to ensure resilience is maintained throughout the application lifecycle including integration with Business Resilience Plans.
Business Requirement
To support the organisation cloud migration effort, a Cloud Resilience and Recovery Framework is required to define resilience in the cloud, guide architecture and provide an effective backup and recovery model to ensure consistency across cloud resources and solutions.
