SAP RISE Azure Integration
ABOUT
As part of the SAP RISE onboarding process, two key Azure integration decisions were required to ensure secure, resilient, and seamless connectivity between the SAP RISE Private Cloud Edition and the company’s existing Azure environment:
- Connecting SAP RISE Private Cloud Edition to the company’s Azure tenant.
- Integration of the corporate DNS with SAP RISE.
The main solution components include:
- Cross-tenant virtual network (vNet) peering to enable secure, low-latency communication between SAP RISE and Azure resources.
- DNS Zone Transfer configuration within the corporate DNS to facilitate authoritative name resolution for SAP RISE services.
- Increase of the on-premises connectivity bandwidth from 2Gbps to 5 Gbps.
Key Features
- Cloud-native firewall enforces security boundaries and access control for the SAP RISE hub network.
- Network extension: SAP RISE is treated as a logical extension of the company’s private network, enabling consistent policy enforcement and resource access.
- DNS resilience: Corporate DNS continues to function independently, even if connectivity to the HEC (Hosted Enterprise Cloud) DNS is disrupted.
- Increase in Megaport and ExpressRoute to 5Gbps.
Business Requirement
The organisation operates an Azure Landing Zone ‘hub and spoke’ architecture, and require integration of the SAP RISE solution within that architecture as a new ‘spoke’. Furthermore, the SAP resources should be integrated into the Corporate DNS.
Finally, consideration of the on-premises connectivity bandwidth to accommodate client > server traffic moving from on-premises to cloud.
Integration Objectives:
- Establish a secure connection between SAP RISE Private Cloud Edition and the company’s Azure tenant.
- Integrate SAP RISE with the corporate DNS infrastructure to support name resolution and service discovery.
- Increase on-premises to cloud bandwidth
